Founder and Director

Elite athlete and Master Trainer Adam Steinmetz has over 17 years’ experience in strength and conditioning coaching, and an expert knowledge in assessing and treating mechanical pain and injuries.

With a background in elite sports performance, and having won numerous athletic titles, Adam’s love for movement and energy production has given him the intuition to fix bodies and adopt all training methodologies to become an industry leading strength and conditioning coach.

Studying biomechanics, human form and function, alongside his sports science diploma and master rehabilitation training, Adam founded Cadence Conditioning to improve all aspects of athletic movement and physical performance.

“I have always had the drive to move well and move fast. When you understand how your body moves you can push yourself to the very limits in a safer way, and are better equipped to see or feel if something isn’t working correctly.  With this knowledge, you can assess and strengthen your weaknesses, and train to perform greater.

Training to perform means helping people realise the body is a machine. An organic machine that compensates amazingly, often to its detriment!  Our bodies recover from different training stresses over staggered lengths of time. Damage to repair. Stress to absorb. This is a dangerous road. My priority is to address mechanical dysfunction or pain and resolve the glitch before injury occurs. Cumulative damage builds up compensation begins you are now training poorly and it becomes a massive waste of energy and time as your training won’t be absorbed.

Through more intelligent training and conditioning of the body with the correct mechanics, timing and intensity, you are guaranteed to move better and perform greater.”

HISTORY

Do the right type of training, at the right time

Cadence initially began as a running technique and conditioning course. I had a lot of runners coming to me wanting to improve their speed and specific fitnesses. I saw that in their strive to achieve better running performances they were essentially running themselves into poorer condition and injury because they would ‘just run’. I wanted to give runners a better more balanced approach to become greater runners and less injured!

Cadence to me means any rhythmic movement and/or the flow in which this pattern is experienced. From music composition to running and cycling or just the general cadence of life, there is a beat. As a strength & conditioning pupil this was and is still very poignant.

This idea should be ever present in all periodised training plans.
There is cadence in specific physical movements and in training of daily, weekly monthly and yearly phases. Rhythm, repetition and timing should always be considered.

Cadence Conditioning was born; a 6 week long running technique, drills and exercise based training group.

So I put together a very specific training progression that would look at improving running mechanics, coordination and strength…

We saw great improvements in running form and economy over the first few months and year as clients race performances improved. However it was very obvious they needed more. Injuries were (and will always be present in high impact sports, however you can considerably reduce this risk) occurring unnecessarily and stunting the forward momentum from this new training system. Things needed to slow down to get faster. I needed to convince runners to do the non-running training that they didn’t want to do, saw as less important? or didn’t know how or what to do!?
Training needed to regularly include, for lack of better terms ‘pre-hab’ The type of exercises your physio gives you and ‘gym work’ being the specific resistance training needed for increased strength, mobility, stability and coordination. Before getting injured!

It’s not the training, it’s how we’re training

I wanted to develop and add other programs to the Cadence’ repertoire to meet such needs but not divert from our motif at the time “Doing the right training, at the right time” which has evolved into “It’s not the training, it’s how we’re training”. People needed to have access to one-on-one precision training – bearing in mind not everyone can afford it.

Generic bootcamps, circuit classes, group fitness and just sports on their own were, and are obviously harming people. Therefore, I began forming my ideal style of balanced, functional and complementary training systems that I can also offer in small groups that would allow people to access and utilise strength & conditioning level training. I researched, experimented and trained with loads of techniques & theories to give Cadence Conditioning’s training systems the balance required to build people’s brain and bodies toward having optimum cohesive movement(OCM). With the end goal of improving physical performance and avoiding injury whether people run, ride, swim, throw, jump, climb, board, ski, play or just DO!

Over the years since the brands birth, Cadence has evolved to the strength and conditioning beast you see here.
